Transformer oil
Oil in transformers is used as a cooling medium and insulation. Acting as a cooling medium, it removes heat from the winding wires. In this case, the viscosity of the oil, which changes depending on the temperature, is important. At positive temperatures, the oil is less viscous; at negative temperatures, the viscosity increases, and very unevenly for oils of different brands. High viscosity impairs oil pumpability and complicates the operation of cooling system mechanisms. In this regard, the oil viscosity is normalized during operation. It is tested with fresh, dry transformer oils before pouring into equipment - in the scope of an abbreviated analysis, which includes the following definitions: acid number, reaction of aqueous extract, presence of water and mechanical impurities, flash point, breakdown voltage.
