Electric planers
An electric planer is a hand-held or stationary woodworking power tool for planing. A plane is the main planing tool for wood and is intended for creating a plane or leveling it, as well as for chamfering at different angles, planing plates, making a groove on the edge of a workpiece (quarter or fold). In an electric planer, the blade (which directly processes the wood) is attached with special bolts to a shaft (drum), which rotates the electric motor. For ease of operation, the electric plane has a special handle, and the surface of its base - the pads - is treated with a special varnish on a waterproof basis. Electric planers can be used to work both along and across the grain of wood. For the successful operation of the tool, the condition of its lower sole is also important, which is usually made of cast duralumin, carefully processed and coated with a special varnish to facilitate sliding. The sole consists of two parts - front and back. The back part slides over already planed wood. The front one moves along the untreated surface and its rise above the working drum determines the depth of the cut. Adjustment is carried out using a handle or button with divisions that allow you to set parameters with high accuracy (steps from 1 mm). To chamfer the edge of the workpiece, rounded grooves are made on the sole, and to select a quarter on the surface of the wood, various side stops are supplied to the plane. Electric planers are divided into: Household - for them it is enough that the plane has only half a kilowatt of power. Professional - characterized by improved technical characteristics, high performance and reliability, as they are designed for long and hard work. HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ELECTRIC PLANER? The main characteristics of the tool are: the power of its engine, the rotation speed of the drum (shaft) with blades, as well as the width and depth of planing. Other characteristics when choosing a power tool: - processing depth; - drum diameter; - the accuracy with which the cutting depth of the tool is set; - mechanism for quick replacement of cutting knives; - the material from which the tool sole is made; - quality of surface treatment of the sole. Those wishing to purchase a tool must first make a choice of the electric plane that will be necessary to perform the most frequently performed work. The price of an electric planer consists of several parameters, the main ones being: power, number of revolutions of the working shaft, as well as productivity (width and depth of cut). Accordingly, the higher these indicators, the higher the price of the instrument. To avoid overpaying, study the characteristics of several models.
